Aerobic endurance is the abilty to continue with exercise over a long period of time without making lactic acid in your muscles. It also relates to the abilty to use oxygen during exercise.

You need aerobic endurance in long distance swimming because it allows you to swim for a long period of time. It is needed most in the distance races like the 1500 and 800 hundred.
